Born and raised in Jorhat, Assam, often referred to as the Cultural Capital of Assam, Prayash Sharma Tamuly’s journey into the world of cinematography is a tapestry woven with threads of light, color, and composition. Now based in Mumbai, India, Prayash is an independent cinematographer and filmmaker with almost ten years of experience. His expertise in the thematic use of light, color, and composition has been the cornerstone of his creative process, making each frame a testament to his craftsmanship.
Prayash’s work has garnered both national and international acclaim. One of his most celebrated achievements is the documentary ‘Daughters of the Polo God,’ which won the Best Documentary (Short) Award at the 19th Annual New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF) in 2019. His work on the Assamese feature ‘Bornodi Bhotiai’ also earned widespread recognition, winning Best Film of 2019 at the 4th Sailadhar Baruah Film Awards and receiving an honorary screening at the 20th Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. Both projects received warm reviews from critics and audiences alike, highlighting Prayash’s ability to bring stories to life with his cinematic vision.
